Michael
I am a freelance VFX assistant editor based in London. My key strength is in managing the detail of VFX editing and I enjoy the challenge of working with complex VFX projects, particularly with large-scale productions. My influences are many and varied, and I enjoy studying the different genres of film over the decades to understand and appreciate how the craft of VFX has evolved over time.
To date I have worked on three major VFX heavy films, Doctor Strange, Thor: Ragnarok and Paddington 2. Doctor Strange and Thor were produced by Marvel Studios and I worked on Paddington 2 at Framestore as VFX Editor. Doctor Strange has achieved critical acclaim for its VFX and was shortlisted for the 2017 Academy Awards. I have also been involved in a number of independent films.
In 2015 I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Editing and Post Production from Ravensbourne. This degree course gave me broad ranging skills in editing, particularly VFX. My passion for film editing came from my time at the BRIT School where I achieved a BTEC in Media Production.
The production ran from June to October 2016 at Village Studios, Gold Coast, Australia. My role as Assistant VFX Editor focussed on dealing with VFX and postvis turnovers, Avid comps and the systematic recording and organisation of witness cam and mocap data.
My responsibilities included managing postvis from numbering up sequences, pulling plates and creating database files with speed change and methodology info then delivering to vendors and the in house team.
I also helped manage the syncing of AVID media between the UK and LA.
I worked on AVID and FileMaker Pro throughout this project.
Always learning
I have used Premiere Pro for a number of years and can use it confidently if needed
Having worked with Avid for a while, including on Doctor Strange, I can use it proficiently and I’m familiar with comping and turnovers
I used FileMaker on Doctor Strange and Thor for creating previs and postvis databases and keeping track of turnovers
I can use AE for comping, tracking and a number of other effects to do good quality temps for editors
